Profile
A native of Great Falls, Donna studied interior design through the Art and Architecture Department at Montana State University in Bozeman, acquiring a BA degree. The required curriculum included many architectural courses, which enable her to be a strong member of the design team that includes the architect, builder, and the trades working at the job site.
For years Donna owned a business in Bozeman, but departed in the mid-1980’s and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, an area known for its cutting edge architecture and design. While there, she worked for Est Est, one of the oldest interior design firms in the area, and left to assist a prominent Scottsdale home builder to establish an interior design department at his firm. There, Donna managed five designers for the company, specifying all the architectural finishes for new home construction, and seeing the client through to the final furnishings.
Now back in Montana, Bigfork is exactly where she wants to be - enjoying the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Flathead Lake, and all the wonderful people. Donna continues her interior design practice, taking pleasure in assisting her clients create a home environment that fits their lifestyle. “By involving me and my team of interior designers early in the planning process, we can help with choices of cabinets, paint colors, floors, and plumbing,” Donna explains, clarifying their full-service approach and involvement with the client.
The other side of her business is the retail store, 1,800 square feet filled with an abundance of furniture, fabrics, and accessories including bed and bath products. Donna strives to bring an eclectic assortment of items into the store. Some are one of a kind, such as Sticks, a line of gallery quality pieces. These are hand painted with the artist’s hand-lettered whimsical phrases. Other special hand made items are willow chandeliers crafted by artisans living in an Amish community.
The commonality that unites the pieces Donna assembles in her store and in her designs is her love for what is natural. “We are seeing a trend toward more wholesome, natural products as we learn more about potential adverse health effects from artificial compounds. Plus, I find beauty in more pure, simple things. Perhaps it’s part of the Montana experience of living close to the land with clean air and beautiful surroundings.”
